Short Term Volunteering Opportunities This Summer

Now the days are getting sunnier and the evenings brighter (we hope!), why not do something a little different this summer – just for a short while?  It’s a great time of year to get out of old routines, try something new, meet new people, and have some fun!  Give Fiona or Bébhinn a call on 059 9173033, if you would like to find out more about any of these short-term opportunities:

Eigse Arts Festival – Box Office Assistants, Exhibition Assistants, Event Helpers, Publicity Assistants, June 7th – 15th.
Get dazzled and amazed at Carlow’s most exciting festival!  A truly mind-boggling programme of events is planned this year and volunteers can get involved in a variety of ways for as much time or as little time as you have available.

Summer Camps – Youth Leaders.
Be a kid again!  Help out with activities for little people – arts & crafts, sports, music, day trips and general mayhem.  Training provided for all volunteers.
DATES:         Carlow town            7th – 11th July
        Tullow                14th – 18th July
        Bagenalstown            July (t.b.c.)
Irish Wheelchair Assoc.    30th June – 4th July
        Gaelscoil Ceatharleach    Summer (t.b.c.)

All Ireland Course Angling Competition – Event Steward, July 27th.
Spend a summers day by a riverbank?  Sounds like heaven!  It is a great honour for Carlow to host this prestigious event and volunteers will play an important part by keeping spectators and competitors safe as they spend the day by the river Barrow.

Day Trip Assistants for People with Disabilities
A chance to help other people enjoy the summer!  Assist a person with a disability on a group outing, help with any mobility challenges and ensure they enjoy their day out. Volunteers can help out for just one day, or come on a couple of outings if you can give the time – just be sure you are able for light physical exertion so that you can help when needed.  (No lifting involved).

Forward Steps Family Resource Centre, Garden Make-over Evening.
If you are green fingered and love pottering about in a garden, this one is for you!  Help to put the final touches to the beautiful new garden at Forward Steps in Tullow, so that the families and individuals using the Centre have space to play, get fresh air, enjoy some nature and peace.  Date to be confirmed – but it will be soon, so let us know if you are interested!

Fundraising Collection Days
Various charities will have fundraising days over the summer – join our “once-off list” and we will notify you in advance of any collections.  Volunteers are usually asked to help for just an hour or so – and you will make a huge difference to people in need.
