Job Vacancy with Dublin City Volunteer Centre

Placement Officer



Reports to:    Manager

•    To recruit volunteers, matching them to volunteering opportunities in local organisations across the Dublin City South area
•    To support volunteers throughout the placement process, including following up with volunteers to assess quality of their placement
•    To identify areas of need, underrepresented groups and barriers to volunteering with a view of developing strategies to respond to these needs and gaps
•    To work closely with the Manager and Organisational Support Officer to enhance the services of the Centre and meet the targets set out in the workplan

Key areas of work:
•    Promote volunteering across the community
•    Recruit volunteers for a variety of tasks and roles – interviewing new volunteers to ascertain their interests and skills, placing volunteers in suitable roles, keeping in touch with them after their placement begins to ensure their volunteering experience is a positive one
•    Establish the needs of registered volunteers and provide them with necessary supports to secure satisfactory placement
•    Actively focus on increasing placement rate of volunteers throughout Dublin City South
•    Provide advice and assistance to organisations wishing to recruit volunteers with specific needs (volunteers with disabilities, from marginalized groups, new communities etc.)
•    Assist in the assessment of the training needs of registered organisations with regard to volunteer recruitment, management and retention in order to build capacity within volunteer-involving organisations
•    Identify, promote and oversee a range of corporate and community group volunteer projects
•    Formulate reports with regard to established targets for the purposes of Board Reports, Press Releases, Funding Proposals and Progress Reports
•    Represent the Centre in community events and meetings relevant to the Volunteer Sector
•    Participate in Volunteer Centres Ireland Placement Officers Forum – attend meetings, contribute suggestions for improvements of placement procedures, support national events and projects as agreed by the Centre Manager
•    Represent the Centre and participate in the VCI planning committee overseeing Give it a Swirl Day, the National Day of Volunteering. This includes sourcing projects, liaising with organisations, matching individual and groups of volunteers with appropriate projects and evaluating the event
•    Maintain accurate and methodical records relating to volunteers and volunteering opportunities
•    General administrative duties as they relate to the post
•    Such other duties which do not change the nature of the post, as may be determined by the Centre manager / Board.

 Person Specification:

•    Familiarity with the work of a Volunteer Centre and the issues in relation to volunteering
•    Commitment to the concept of volunteering and objectives of the post
•    A relevant third level qualification
•    A minimum of 2 years experience of local voluntary/community sector
•    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
•    Excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills
•    Accurate and methodological approach
•    Ability to advise, inform, motivate and support individuals and organisations
•    Strong inter-personal skills and ability to develop positive working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations
•    Ability to work as part of a small team and on own initiative
•    Flexible, with willingness to travel and work outside normal office hours

Salary: €37,400 per annum
