The National Advocacy Programme

Is looking for people who would like to become a volunteer advocate for older people in residential care

Are you:

Interested in working with older people

Non-judgemental and a good listener?

Interested in human rights and social justice?

Able to use your own initiative?

Do you:

Want to make a contribution to your local community?

Have 2-3 hours a week to spare?

Then you could be the person we are looking for!

The National Advocacy Programme was set up in January 2009 to empower older people in residential care to effectively voice their needs and wishes, access their entitlements and assert their rights.

Each volunteer advocate will be matched with an older person whom they will visit regularly. As the basis of good citizen advocacy is a trusting relationship, we will be asking our volunteers for a minimum commitment of two years. Volunteers must be willing to undergo Garda clearance and training. It is proposed to commence the programme in Kildare as soon as adequate numbers of volunteers are identified.
